Magnetism and Magnetoelectric Materials
Research:
Multiferroic materials have potential technological applications like, among others, in Random Access Memory devices (ferroelectric), energy storage components, magnetic sensors. These are derived from the physics behind those materials, which determine how the magnetism is related with the electric dipole order inside them.
My work is concerned with the search of this multiferroic link within transition metal oxides, pnictides and chalcogenides. For this purpose, I employ in house facilities in order to study the magnetic susceptibility and the magnetodielectric response (with home-made setup) of model systems, while by X-ray powder diffraction I also try to draw relations of their physical behviour with the materials’ crystallographic structure. In addition, I have interest in synthesizing selected frustrated transition metal oxide antiferromagnets through bulk solid state reactions. With this, I hope that I can add to the picture about open questions related with the ways that geometrically frustated lattice topology gives rise to electric polarization, either upon spontaneous appearance of complex magnetic order or even under the influence of an applied magnetic field.
Personal:
I enjoy playing football and basketball, as well go hiking, dancing, I like reading historical, fantastic and scientific novels.
