Subject area:
Utilization in Photonic Crystal Fibers
Research:
I am a member of realization team for the European project NANOTAIL [in collaboration with the National Nanotechnology Laboratory (NNL-CNR) in Lecce (Italy) and the Centre d’Elaboration de Matériaux et d’Etudes Structurales (CEMES-CNRS) in Toulouse (France)]. My work involves characterization and development of microstructured optical fibers and devices combined with inorganic nanocrystals. We aim to bring together the expertise of the Photonic Materials & Devices Lab (http://www.iesl.forth.gr/users/pmdl/) with that of the Functional Nanocrystals Lab in order to realize nanomaterials’ driven enhancement of light propagation in new advanced photonic devices.
Currently work is focused on an effective microstructure filling method and proper exploitation of size-controlled superparamagnetic iron-oxide nanocrystals, which are expected to provide scalable target devices.Career:
1999-2005: Undergraduate studies
Department of Telecommunications, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic; diploma work title: Plastic optical fibers in telecommunications.
2005-2009: PhD studies
Department of Telecommunications, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic; working on: Polymer fibers as photonic crystals and their transmission properties.
04/2009-07/2009: Quality manager for GM Electronic
Czech Republic; implementation and maintenance quality according to ISO 9001
07/2009-07/2010: Marie-Curie ToK-DEV Research Fellow
NANOTAIL European program; Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser, FORTH, Greece; project entitled: Hybrid nanocrystals exhibiting advanced and tailored properties.
Personal:
I like the sun and beaches, all kind of water sports, volleyball, mountain climbing and cycling from outdoor activities; also cooking and sci-fi or technical literature from indoor.
